Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation also known as “lip fillers” is becoming a very popular treatment and minimally invasive to give you fuller and plumper lips. It can be done quickly and painlessly once we have achieved full anaesthesia of the lips. At our practice we use a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler, which is a natural substance already found in the body which means you are less likely to be allergic to it. We are able to enhance the shape, structure and volume of the lips and effects typically last up to 6 months, but to maintain the desired look the process will then need to be repeated.

Benefits of hyaluronic acid fillers

Control over lip volume – you can choose how much volume you want

Gradual pace of treatment – over time you can reach the desired result

Any lumps can be dissolved easily

Less bruising and swelling – in comparison to other types of filler

Long lasting results without being a permanent defect – if you prefer your lips before they will return to normal

Low risk of allergy – being a substance already in the body

What to expect during the procedure

It is a fairly simple treatment allowing you to be in and out of the practice quite quickly. There will be a detailed discussion prior to starting the treatment based on size and shape and what is realistically achievable using a mirror with the clinician.

The use of anaesthetic administered by local injection as a nerve block is usually advised to ease the pain during the procedure but is always considered to be an option and can be declined. A cold compress may be used to reduce bruising and swelling if necessary.

The relevant areas are then injected with filler and the lips are sculpted in line with the discussion with particular reference to volume and definition that is required.

Following the procedure, massage should be avoided for 24 hours to reduce bruising and discomfort, a cold compress may be applied but without firm pressure. It is important to avoid lipstick or other lip products. The appearance will be immediately different and there will be substantial swelling which will settle over the next 7 days leaving you with a great result.
