Root Canal Treatment

A root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to treat infection at the centre of the tooth.

In most circumstances a cavity has progressed reaching the nerves inside the tooth. The bacteria in the cavity cause an infection has spread down the root of the tooth and collected underneath it making it necessary to clean out the tooth from the bottom to the top and then seal it to prevent further problems.

At Hunjan Dental Practice we use the most contemporary nickel titanium file systems to optimise the cleaning and shaping of the roots chambers inside the tooth and provide the best possible results.

A root canal is only done in circumstances where it is the last and only remaining option available to save the tooth, beyond this the tooth must be removed.

We will do everything we can to make the process as simple and painless as we can.

The Process

The first thing we do is ensure the tooth is fully numb before starting.

We then carefully remove the affected tooth until we reach the nerves and gently remove them too in order to eliminate the pain.

Following this an antibacterial solution is used to effectively clean all bacteria out and a soothing medicine is placed inside the roots.

We then seal the roots with a soft filling material and a permanent filling is placed in the top of the tooth.

It is most often advised to have a crown placed over the tooth after treatment to protect the tooth from fracturing in the long term.

If you have been advised that you need a root canal or are in pain, please contact the practice for an appointment. We are here to help.
